The annual celebration of music, Make Music Day, is here.
In over 1,000 cities across 120 countries in the world, people are attending music festivals, outdoor concerts, music lessons and other music making events in celebration of the very sounds that make you feel, dance and move.
Look for all-day music celebrations as close as Nashville, New York City, Los Angeles, and Miami, and places as far as China, Canada, Italy, Brazil, and more. Expect a day filled with making new friends and encouraging the sound within us. Today’s the day you can turn your speakers up.
Make Music Day started in 1982 in Paris as the Fete de la Musique, France’s biggest street party. Unlike other concerts, festivals or music celebrations, this one is free and open to the public all day long. There are also smaller celebrations within local neighborhoods. The hottest DJs and producers break it down for all the music lovers with jam sessions and full out street parties.
Landmarks such as the Niagara Falls, Long Beach Convention Center, and the Bennington Battle Monument and other prominent buildings also join in on the festivities, shining a signature orange light to celebrate this day globally.
Highlights for this year include live streamed performances, drum lessons from local music shops, a meditation session, and more. People will perform a healing chant through vocalization and host listenings in parts of Tennessee, New York, Philadelphia, California, and Wisconsin.
Other high points include unique events like Macon Downtown Boogie in Georgia, a Hip Hop Lyric Workshop in Hartford, and a Youth Music Summit in Miami where young musicians gather for educational workshops and a concert and a Silent Disco party.
