If you didn’t know, the annual CHALE WOTE Street Art Festival brings art, music, dance, and performance out of the galleries and onto the streets of James Town, Accra. This 12-day festival is a feast of creative expression and cultural celebration that should not be missed.
Each year, more than 200 Ghana-based and international artists participate in the festival that includes street painting, graffiti murals, photo exhibitions, interactive installations, a food and fashion marketplace, live street performances, extreme sports, African Cinema pavilion, street boxing, a fashion parade, a music block party, design labs, and much more.

Last year, over 100,000 people showed up to take to the streets in vibrant streetwear and to celebrate their culture and creativity. This year, the festival will run from August 14-25 giving you enough time to plan your travel (and outfit) accordingly. Come ready to party and bask in the freedom of self-expression and imagination.
This year’s theme, Pidgin Imaginarium, “exists within other imaginaria and remains a place of refuge, possibility, experimentation and critical insights to overthrow the exploitative hierarchy of the hegemon-led world system. Centuries of resistance has produced this elusive Imaginarium for a new world, a fresh start for people on the margins. Pidgin is a time capsule, a time-traveling memory repository and a metaphysical extension of many other lifeworlds of creation and exchange”.
