The first Black-owned drive in movie theater has opened in Houston.

Located in East Downtown at 2300 Runnels St, Space City Shows was started by Khairi Sharif, inspired by his love for going to the movies.

“I enjoy going to the movies, whether it’s to see a new movie or even an old movie,” Sharif said. “You know, the blue ICEE, some nachos, some candy. I wasn’t able to do that with coronavirus going on. So, my mind got to wandering, and I thought of [starting] a drive-in movie theater.”

In addition to a wide selection of movies, including classics and new movie selections,  there will be music from a live DJ and food truck options on site.

Tickets are $30 per vehicle and can be purchased online through the Space City Shows website.
