Delta Air Lines has announced a new route to Mexico City, which will be unveiled on Cinco de Mayo, according to a spokesperson for the carrier. The new route will commence daily service from Boston Logan International Airport to Mexico City International Airport on December 21, 2023, operated by a Boeing 757-200, reports by The Points Guy.

Delta Flight 250 will depart Boston at 7:50 a.m. and arrive in Mexico City at 12:55 p.m. Return Flight 251 will leave Mexico City at 2 p.m. and land back in Boston at 7:51 p.m. Interested passengers can start booking their seats starting Sunday, May 7, though Delta’s new service is subject to government authorization.

This latest announcement comes as Delta continues to expand its Boston hub. Last year, the airline added new service to Tel Aviv and Athens, Greece, and it plans to connect Boston to six of its joint-venture hubs, including Amsterdam (KLM), London (Virgin Atlantic), Paris (Air France), Sao Paulo (LATAM), Seoul, South Korea (Korean Air), and now Mexico City (Aeromexico).

Delta will operate the Mexico City route in partnership with Aeromexico, its joint-venture partner. This partnership offers customer benefits such as more flights and a streamlined travel experience. Delta’s Boston expansion will also include an expanded international terminal and a new Sky Club expected to open in August or September.

Delta’s latest international expansion puts it in direct competition with JetBlue Airways in Boston. JetBlue also considers the city one of its most important hubs, or “focus cities.” However, Delta’s international expansion is expected to attract flyers looking to explore destinations beyond JetBlue’s primarily leisure-focused international gateways.
