The Broccoli Festival team has solidified themselves as one of the top Black-owned music festivals over the last few years. Now, they are stepping things up a notch with their latest venture.
Food and Grooves is an all-new experience that the guys will be taking on along with Live Nation Urban and The James Beard Foundation. The goal is to bring awareness to diverse, underrepresented talent throughout the culinary industry while also grooving to a little R&B.
“We felt like there was no one showcasing dope chefs and mixologists of color,” Brandon McEachern, Co-founder of Broccoli Festival told Travel Noire. “We’re looking to celebrate these chefs with this new experience. We wanted to bring these people together and give them a space to talk about the things they are doing right now.”
One of the hottest Black chefs on the scene right now, Chef Kwame Onuwachi, will be among the list of award-winning chefs in attendance. Kwame along with Questlove will sit down for a special live recording of the Questlove Supreme podcast.
There will be sit-downs with acclaimed chefs such as JJ Johnson, Greg Collier, and Qiana Mickie just to name a few. Not to mention a host of local and regional food vendors serving up their best dishes.
Since this is a Broccoli Fest creation, you know the music component is going to be on point.
“Our main goal is to keep that R&B element and to bring artists who have that special groove,” McEachern said.
The lineup includes Tank and the Bangas, Teedra Moses, Black Alley Band, and a special performance by Jabari and Dauche.
This laid back boutique food, music, and culture experience will also bring interactive cooking demos, wine and spirit tastings, panel discussions, book signings and more.
Food and Grooves will take place October 26 at Union Market in Washington, D.C. Tickets go on sale August 23 beginning at 10 am.
