If you’re an avid watcher of the Real Housewives franchise on Bravo, you’re probably well aware of some of the lavish vacations the cast has been sent on. The Real Housewives of Atlanta cast, alone, has indulged in trips to Jamaica, Japan, South Africa, Anguilla, and The Philipines, to name a few. Are the cast members paying for these luxe vacays? Andy Cohen, executive producer of the Real Housewives franchise, dishes on who’s footing the bill.
“We do,” Andy tells OK! Magazine. “Frankly, we do yeah but you know it depends on the vacation actually.”
“There have been some that have been generated by us and there have been some that have been generated by them,” Andy goes on to say. “The women take the planning of the vacation really seriously and so it’s a case by case but we have paid for them, yes.”
Although this may seem like common sense to some, Several viewers have been under the impression that it was actually the housewives covering the annual trips. However, production and corporate sponsors have made these trips possible.
“Look at the credits. If you see ‘promotional consideration provided by’ an airline, a hotel, a cruise ship, a this, a that. That means it was provided by the producers,” former Real Housewives star, Alex McCord, said in a 2012 interview.
McCord also revealed that the reason you won’t see the stars shopping on their vacays is because that isn’t covered by the production team. She tells cameras, “the producers weren’t paying.” Adding, “In this case, the producers clearly didn’t buy anything so they’re not going to spend their money. No New Yorker is going to buy anything retail in London because the prices are ridiculous!”
