The New 7 Wonders of the World

The 7 Wonders of the World are broken up into two different categories - those of the ancient world and of today.

The list of modern wonders was proposed in the early 2000s and finalized in the year 2007.

The finished product was determined through online voting, meaning not everyone agreed with the selections. Nonetheless, here are the 7 man-made monuments that ultimately made the cut.

Located in India, the Taj Mahal is a mausoleum built out of mainly white marble. It is considered the pinnacle of indo-Islamic architecture, explaining its spot on this prestigious list.

Taj Mahal

Given that it was built around 72 AD, the complex engineering, innovative design and insane capacity make this Roman structure a Wonder of the World.

Colosseum

This statue is the largest of its kind in the world. It was built as a symbol to Christianity, and remains a culturally iconic in its home country of Brazil.

Christ the Redeemer

Located in the Andes of Peru, this site was a sacred sanctuary for in Inca people. It offers a rare insight into the anicent civilization.

Machu Picchu

There are many questions yet to be answered about this ancient city. The homes and monuments have been carved from the surrounding sandstone.

Petra

This site was a contender for one of the 7 Wonders due to its archeological significance. The city reveals a lot about Mayan culture.

Chichén Itzá

Arguably one of the most popular locations on this list, the Great Wall of China took over two millennia to build. Today it spans over 13,000 miles, making it the longest man-made structure in the world.
