During January, Americans celebrate the life of the legendary civil rights icon, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law back in 1983 and it was officially celebrated three years later. The holiday typically falls a few days after Dr. King’s birthday on January 15. While the day is primarily celebrated with volunteer work in cities across the nation, travelers take advantage of the three-day weekend with some awesome travel deals.

Since January is a winter month, one would think escaping the cold weather would be preferred, but there’s nothing wrong with snuggling up at a hotel overlooking the beautiful scenery in Aspen. The Hilton Denver Inverness is a 4-star hotel that has a great deal for the weekend, with rates starting at $88 a night. Another cold city worth visiting is Stowe, Vermont. Known for its snowy ski slopes, the Hilton Burlington also has some rooms going for $120 per night.
