Looking for an escape that expands the confines of this planet? Inter-galactic space travel might be the solution. If your passions lie in aeronautics, astronomy, or aviation, a new, (literally) out-of-this-world career in the Air Force could be your calling.

The U.S. armed forces recently announced a new branch of the military that sounds a bit like the latest sci-fi blockbuster or Star Wars sequel. According to the website, Space Force is a military service that organizes, trains, and equips space forces in order to protect U.S. and allied interests in space and to provide space capabilities to the joint force.

The latest branch of the armed forces was established in December, 2019, and they are beginning their search for recruits. In their latest recruitment video posted to Twitter, Space Force invites you to find your purpose on another planet.

“Space has become essential to our security and prosperity – so much so that we need a branch of our military dedicated to its defense, just like we have branches of the military dedicated to protecting and securing the air, land, and sea,” states the website.

For those eager to join, it may be a while before that rocket launches. The exact process of joining the Force is still being developed, but the website encourages anyone interested in joining the U.S. Space Force to look at current Air Force space-focused career fields such as Space Operations or Space Systems Maintenance.

Currently, the “how do I join” link on the website takes you to the U.S. Air Force Career Assessment page to best find your area of interest and expertise among various fields including aircraft and flight, special warfare, and future technologies.

As if we aren’t already dealing with enough here on Earth, it sounds like space wars might be a thing of the very near future.
