One mom found out that her baby didn’t want to experience the Dominican Republic inside her womb. In fact, when the plane took off, so did the kicks, which eventually led to mom, Kendra Rhoden, giving birth mid-flight.

“Everything just happened so fast, it just happened so quick,” she tells WFSB, adding the nurses onboard who helped initially told her not to push because they thought she had more time.

It turns out they were wrong.

Rhoden’s newborn son made his grand entrance into the world on the flight  – six weeks before her original due date.

The Baby’s Birthplace Listed As “In The Air”

Upon landing, both the baby and Kendra were taken to a hospital in the Dominican Republic to be evaluated.

In a series of TikTok videos, Rhoden answered questions that we’ve all been pondering. She revealed that the baby’s name is Skylan, which pays homage to his experience and birthplace. While Skylan is a US citizen, his birthplace is listed as “in the air,” according to Rhoden.

For those wondering, many doctors will approve commercial air travel before week 36 of pregnancy as it’s considered safe as long as there are no underlying health issues or complications with the pregnancy.

Both mom and baby are back in Connecticut after spending a few weeks in the Dominican Republic. While doctors still evaluate the child in the hospital, Rhoden says they are both doing well.

“I feel good now because I’m home, and he’s safe. He’s where he needs to be right now,” Rhoden tells WFSB. “I would say I’m happier than I was in the Dominican Republic.”

“We wish both mom and baby Skylan a healthy recovery. And if one thing is clear: this baby is going places in life.”
