Hong Kong has been embroiled in anti-government protests for almost six months, discouraging many travelers from visiting the bustling city-state. When August protests led to a partial shutdown of Hong Kong International Airport and the cancellation of almost 1,000 flights, the airport reported its largest monthly drop in passengers in a decade. Similar drops are expected for the month of September. In an effort to combat this travel slump, airlines are offering record-low prices on flights to Hong Kong from destinations all over the world.
Those flying on Qantas Airways from Sydney, Brisbane, or Melbourne can score flights for as low as HK $3,500 (about $450) if they book in September. Cathay Pacific Air has flights from several European locales starting at HK $4,120 (about $525). Air France is offering roundtrip economy flights from Paris Charles de Gaulle for travel throughout October for as low as HK$3,800 (about $485).
Perhaps the most eye-catching deal is from American Airlines. Passengers flying from Los Angeles who book before September 30 for travel between October 4 and 25, will score flights for just HK $1,200 (or $153.25). Cathay Pacific also has a deal on flights heading to Hong Kong from Vancouver and passengers departing on certain dates in September can nab roundtrip flights from HK $4,277 (about $546).
Even Qatar Airways, the world’s best airline according to Skytrax, is offering record-low flights from several destinations to Hong Kong. For select dates in October, travelers can take advantage of a multi-destination deal with stops in Athens and Paris for just HK $4,275 (about $545).
Most of the flights have to be booked rather quickly but are the perfect option for those with flexible schedules seeking a fall getaway.
