One of the long-term effects the COVID-19 pandemic might have on the world is the acceptance of working remotely. If this happens, it changes the geographical game where people physically have to be located to do their jobs.

And countries understand that.

As the world began its reopening, the people who have created lifestyles to work from anywhere were proven to be winners as tourism leaders announced long-term visas for those willing to work and relocate in another country.

Nomad List has put together a chart of the fastest-growing cities for remote workers by analyzing over 121,000 check-ins from its members who have been working remotely for more than five years.

According to its data, Canggu, Bali, is the fastest-growing city over the past five years, growing by 377 percent from 2015 to 2019. 

Lisbon, Portugal, follows Bali with 227 percent growth. Sydney, Australia came in third at 209 percent growth. Mexico City, Mexico, ranks fourth at 186 percent growth.

Nomad List noted that affordability is one of the most important factors remote workers consider before moving to a new place. Its analysts found Bali, Lisbon, Kiev in Ukraine, and Minsk in Belarus offers affordable real estate.
