Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 2, all accommodation providers in Los Cabos, Mexico will offer on-site rapid antigen COVID-19 testing, with results available in as little as 40 minutes. This will include hotels, villas, resorts, and timeshares.

The region’s decision to offer testing services on their lodging premises, comes in response to the CDC’s recent requirement that all international passengers traveling into the United States must receive a negative COVID-19 test result in order to board any flight to the country.

The managing director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board, Rodrigo Esponda, said, “We are proud of the strong partnership we have created with our tourism partners across the destination, which has been critical to Los Cabos’ response to COVID-19 and the creation of the new testing program.”

Esponda added that the board will continue to provide service that “supports the CDC requirement without disrupting the travel experience of our visitors.”

Although many hotels and resorts will offer free testing to confirmed guests, in general, testing costs begin at around $60. PCR tests will also be available at some locations, with results becoming available between 24 and 72 hours after testing.

Tourists who test positive for COVID-19 while in Los Cabos will be required to quarantine in their hotel for 14 days and will not be permitted to leave until receiving a negative test result.

The Los Cabos Board of Tourism stated that properties are creating areas specifically reserved for people who test positive, where they may “follow quarantine protocols with discounted rates.”

Accommodations will have medical staff on-site to provide guests with assistance. Those requiring advanced treatment will have access to it at nearby medical offices and hospitals.

The Los Cabos Board of Tourism also said it is creating a station in the Los Cabos International Airport where emergency COVID-19 tests can be performed. For more information visit the Los Cabos Tourism Board online.
