Hit the sands and layout on one of Barbados’ beautiful beaches. The water is safe to swim and suitable for water sports like jet skis, snorkeling, surfing, etc. Be on the lookout for the breathtaking sunrises and sunsets on the island.
If you plan on surfing more than swimming, Miami Beach is the place, not to be confused with Florida’s Miami beach.
Jump into the crashing waves at Crane Beach. If you swim out about 50m at Paynes Bay, Carlisle Bay, or Lone Star beach, you’ll see turtles gliding right past you in the water.
Tour Bridgetown, the nation’s capital
Explore the history and heritage of Barbados’ capital Bridgetown, one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites. You can’t miss the bronze Nelson Mandela statue at the top of Broad Street. The Barbados Garrison is a historic sight to see for free, but only from the outside. Guided tours are available for designated prices.
Take a Walk on the Boardwalk
Enter at the south or west coast and walk along the promenade. It won’t cost you a thing, except maybe time to reflect on your next travel destination. The view of the sunset is stunning and lined with restaurants and bars, so be careful not to spend your whole vacation savings on food.
Embrace Local Arts
Seeing is free so if you’re still near Bridgetown, take in the art by local artisans at the Pelican Village Craft Centre. Bring cash, just in case you see something worth purchasing. Check out the wood carvings, paintings, pottery, and other trinkets to take back to your family. Attend local exhibits featuring local, Caribbean and international artists.
Go for a hike
Hope you didn’t forget your camera, sneakers, and workout gear. It’s free, but donations are welcome, at the Barbados National Trust Park. Guided tours begin every Sunday from 6 am – 3:30 pm, followed by a “Moonlight Hike” in the evening.
Spend a day with the locals
Sample the most popular local dishes and spend time with the locals and at the nearest farmers markets. They take place Saturday and Sunday across the island. Eat tasty fried fish, dance to live music, and chill out with some classic rum amongst the locals.
Have A Picnic
Pack a bag of treats, snacks, and some waters for a picnic. The best way to spend time outdoors. Sandy Lane beach is a popular relaxation spot for families and couples looking for some alone time. Cove Bay is another great location. It’s quiet and the view is beautiful.
