When you combine the fact that states are easing up on mandatory stay-at-home restrictions with recent announcements from major airlines and hotels of plans to keep people safe from COVID-19, it should come to no surprise that more Americans are feeling comfortable to travel again.

But many Americans aren’t looking to go too far.

Recent data from Expedia revealed that eight out of the top 10 most searched destinations for flights for July through the end of the year were located in the U.S, as first reported in Travel + Leisure.

Orlando was the most searched destination on Expedia followed by Honolulu and Las Vegas.  Sin City also took the top spot for domestic hotel searches, according to the site.

“As states start to ease their stay-at-home restrictions and people become more comfortable with the idea of travel, it’s likely Americans will choose to explore their own backyard first,” a spokeswoman for Expedia told T+L, adding the interest in destinations like Orlando and Las Vegas “could be an indication of Americans seeking a vacation that offers warm weather and tons of activities, both indoor and outdoor, and shows that for now at least curious travelers haven’t ruled out visiting a big city.”

There are some people, however, looking for an international getaway.

Expedia users are looking to go to Cancun, which came in at No. 5 on the most searched for flights list, and London, which took the No. 7 spot.

This also doesn’t come to a surprise as Los Cabos officials are planning a phased reopening, as Travel Noire previously reported.
