Welcome to this week’s weekly wacky travel story roundup, where the skies are anything but friendly and the seas are anything but shining.

The rise in “travel incidents” — for lack of a better word — may be due to pandemic fatigue, the rise of social media, or perhaps a little bit of both. But what’s definitely clear is that things are just getting started when it comes to the lack of act-right.

A recent report from NBC News reveals that travel incidents jumped exponentially since 2019. To wit: prior to the pandemic, there were only about 10 or so incidents a month. But after the pandemic, that number jumped to a whopping 500 incidents a month.

And, according to the report, what we’re seeing in travel is nothing compared to what we’re seeing in everyday life.

“Rage in the not-so-friendly skies is also a manifestation of anger happening on the ground,” reported the outlet. “For every video of an airline passenger losing it on a flight, there are others at grocery stores, school board meetings, and banks.”

So, with each weekly wacky travel story we talk about here, it’s worth remembering that there are real people behind them that get affected — negatively — every time.

A Magic Mushroom Ride Goes Wrong

It’s probably not a good idea to take a hallucinogenic drug before one boards a flight — but someone should have told that to Cherruy Loghan Sevilla.

On October 12, 2022, Sevilla was traveling on a United Airlines flight from Miami to Washington, D.C., when the “shrooms” kicked in…and chaos ensued.

The TOO Friendly Skies

In 2020, Christine Janning co-piloted a flight from Philadelphia to Orlando with Michael Haak.

And this, really, is where the story should have ended.

But Haak proved that if men will have nothing else, they’ll have the audacity.

Two years later, Janning is suing for the audacity…and we can’t say we blame her.

Book a Hotel Instead

When people go away on vacation, they go to relax.

Unfortunately, Melissa Forrest of Southern California — who owns 10 homes that she’s put on AirBnB (yes, she’s one of those) — didn’t get the memo.

If you want to stay at one of her houses, you’ll have to clean up after yourself.

Dinner and a Show

Never, ever get between a woman and her dog.

A flight from New York to Atlanta went as might be expected when a woman was told to take her dog off her lap.

Three guesses as to what happened next

Locked Up Abroad

In April 2022, a crew from Pivot Airlines was detained in the Dominican Republic after illegal drugs were reportedly found on the plane.

Six months later, they’re still in the DR with no sign of when they may possibly be going home.

This isn’t Locked Up Abroad…this is real life. Check out the story to find out more.
