Summer brings the biggest event in the UK music scene: Glastonbury festival. Tickets went on sale for this decades spanning concert event in November of 2024 and sold out in 35 minutes.
Glastonbury is the largest greenfield festival in the world. This year’s event will take place from June 25-29. It's expected to attract the usual crowd of over 200,000 festivalgoers.
So, where is Glastonbury and how should you prepare for it? Here is what you need to know if you were lucky enough to get a ticket or are going to try your luck with resale tickets.
Glastonbury Festival takes place at Worthy Farm, which is located in Pilton, Somerset, England. Its over 100 concert stages are scattered across over 1,000 acres of land.
Throughout the festival grounds, you can also find camping sites, hundreds of food stalls, vendors, medical facilities, restrooms, art installations, activities and more.
To preserve Worthy Farm’s land, which is an active dairy farm throughout the rest of the year, Glastonbury takes a fallow year, or break, every five years. The next one will be in 2026.
The weather at Worthy Farm during Glastonbury Festival can be highly unpredictable. It is typically around 18-24°C (64-75°F) during the day, but it can drop to 10-12°C (50-54°F) at night.
As typical with England, rain is common and has often turned the farm into famously muddy fields. Some years see heavy downpours, while others stay relatively dry.
It is essential that those camping on the festival’s grounds bring a waterproof tent, rain ponchos, rain boots, warm layers for nighttime, sun screen (no matter the weather), hats, reusable water bottle, etc.
It takes thousands of hard working individuals to run an operation as large as Glastonbury Festival. However, it looked much different in its beginnings.
The first Glastonbury Festival took place on Sept. 19, 1970 at Worthy Farm. It was originally called the Pilton Pop, Blues & Folk Festival and was organized by Michael Eavis.
Tickets cost £1, and attendees were even given free milk from the farm. Around 1,500 people attended, and the headline act was T. Rex.
