For the more adventurous traveler who enjoys experiences beyond the traditional tourist outings, upstate New York is new terrain to explore.
This area of the Empire State is known for its mountains and lakes. It's away from the hustle and bustle, but still just a three-hour drive away. Here are activities in Upstate New York for your spring and summer bucket list.
Rich wildlife, hiking trails and ski resorts make up the Catskill Mountains experience. It's located in the southeastern part of New York state.
Home to the Saratoga Race Course and the National Museum of Racing, this area is a hub for horse lovers. They also offer a state park with mineral baths and an arts center.
The Minnewaska State Park Preserve features winding trails and a scenic highlight. Often uncrowded, tourists can enjoy the experience at a relaxed pace.
Dedicated to the art, history and science of glass, this museum was erected in 1951. The collection features over 50,000 objects that date back to over 3,500 years ago.
Visitors to the park can enjoy a breathtaking view of this natural wonder, as well as access to the Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center.
Eleven long and narrow, North-South lakes make up the Finger Lakes site also located near Lake Ontario. There's also a drive-in theatre located in the region.
Home to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Cooperstown offers a range of interactive museums and lake views. It is also located at the southern tip of Otsego Lake.
The George Eastman Museum is the world's oldest of its kind, dedicated to photography. Displays include the oldest film archives, in honor of photographer George Eastman.
