Located in the north-central part of California, Sacramento is the state capital. Several day-trip-worthy spots neighbor the Bay Area city. Consider these options when booking your next trip.
Napa County is around an hour's drive from Sacramento, just north of San Francisco. The area is known for its hillside vineyards frequented by visitors from around the world.
Napa is also known for its gourmet food scene. There are several tasting rooms to enjoy, and the city offers a locomotive train that runs through the valley.
Located at the border of both California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is within a two-hour drive from Sacramento. The fresh water lake sits in the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Visitors enjoy hiking, biking, rock climbing, kayaking, whitewater rafting, paddleboarding and parasailing. It also has beautiful beaches and ski resorts.
Yosemite is also located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and less than a three-hour drive from Sacramento. The national park holds giant, ancient Sequoia trees, a host of restaurants, shops and lodging.
As far as views nearby, there's the granite cliffs of El Capitan, Bridalveil Fall and the Half Dome. The park has become a photographer hotspot over the years.
Along the Pacific Coastline, on Route 1, sits Bodega Bay. Beach lovers unite for this day trip, which is within a two-hour drive of Sacramento. It's sure to become a favorite.
More of a laid back vibe than the other day trips, it's the perfect place to catch some ocean air and downtime with a beautiful view.
A cultural and commercial hub, San Francisco is the fourth most populated city in California. It's a great escape from hot weather that's less than a two-hour drive from Sacramento. The fog comes with great views and food.
Outside of its eclectic neighborhoods, San Francisco is also known for its landmarks, which include the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz.
