One of Minnesota's "Twin Cities," Minneapolis is known for its lakes and cultural landmarks. Similarly, its neighboring areas and cities offer much to explore.
Whether over the weekend or on a holiday, day trips from Minneapolis include lakes, waterfalls, museums and other attractions. Here's a list for your consideration.
Antique shops, restaurants and bed and breakfasts dress the streets of Stillwater. Their historic downtown and St. Croix valley views are also scenic attractions.
On top of enjoying the lake, businesses around Lake Minnetonka offer a variety of recreational activities to explore. This makes it perfect for a day trip or a weekend away.
Camping, swimming, fishing and hiking are among the activities available to both locals and visitors. It's also located on the St. Croix River.
Northfield is an especially creative area, although it boasts much more. Outdoorsy folks will enjoy the countless orchards and gardens to explore this spring.
At the Red Wing Shoe Company Museum, visitors can explore a manufacturing facility and see the world's largest boot. This area also boasts a buzzing downtown area.
This interstate park covers ground in both Minnesota and the border of Wisconsin. The St. Croix River can also be seen in the area, making it an outdoor lovers' dream.
On the edge of Minnesota's western prairie sits Alexandria. It holds hundreds of clear, blue lakes in addition to museums and a theme park.
Duluth is home to the Split Rock Lighthouse and Gooseberry Falls State Park, which offer views of Lake Superior's north shore. It's a longer day trip, though it's worth the drive.
