American Airlines launched its longest nonstop flight on Monday, Oct. 28, connecting Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) in Texas to Brisbane Airport (BNE) in Queensland, Australia.

This historic route spans over 8,300 miles, with a journey duration of nearly 16 hours.

Over 12,000 viewers tuned into the live stream of the aircraft landing on Brisbane Airport's (BNE) YouTube channel.

An American Airlines spokesperson told USA TODAY the nonstop flight between Dallas and Brisbane was fully booked, staffed by three pilots and 12 flight attendants.

At DFW Airport's celebration, customers received gift bags and a voucher for a free koala experience at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary.

Brisbane is American Airlines' second Australian route, following its daily flights from Los Angeles to Sydney.

In early February, BNE announced in a press release that the new flight is expected to attract "thousands of additional tourists to Queensland, boosting tourism jobs across the state."

Travelers can expect a blend of comfort, privacy and advanced technology, elevating their travel experience significantly with the newly designed Boeing 787-9 aircraft, which features the innovative Flagship Suite® seats.

Each suite includes a fully flat bed, providing ample space for relaxation. This is essential for those traveling on long journeys like the Dallas to Brisbane route.

Starting Oct. 28,  the airline will provide five flights per week in each direction, ramping up to daily flights from December through March 2025.

In winter 2025, passengers can connect to over 200 U.S. destinations and nearly 70 in Australia, according to a press release from American Airlines.

This inaugural direct route offers passengers a remarkable journey, complete with the latest in aviation comfort and convenience.
