A popular trend that has gained traction across social platforms this summer is the “airport tray aesthetic” or the “TSA bin aesthetic.”
The trend involves travelers neatly organizing belongings in bins passengers put their carry-on items in when going through TSA security.
This trend is popular amongst fashion lovers who enjoy seeing aesthetically pleasing travel items neatly laid out in the airport bins.
Popular airport tray aesthetic posts usually feature bins consisting of designer bags, Apple headphones, beauty products, digital cameras, Adidas shoes, books and more.
Interestingly, as the virality of the airport tray aesthetic trend has taken off, so have criticisms of it.
Many social media users have expressed disapproval for the trend as they believe it could make going through TSA an even slower process.
Some comments left on airport tray aesthetic TikTok videos criticize participants of the trend for potentially holding up TSA lines for what they see as a pointless picture.
On the other hand, TSA seems a lot less concerned with the trend.
The TSA said to The Post in a statement, "As long as the staged glamor photos are not causing delays or issues with other passengers in the checkpoint, there are no issues.”
Other commenters are more interested in how travelers are setting up their bins and taking these pictures without being rushed or yelled at.
The trick TikTok creators like @chelseaasoflate have shared is taking the bin with them after going through security and then setting up their aesthetic pictures out of the line.
Other creators like @pipertaich are even ordering bins and taking the pictures at their home, sometimes even going as far as making fake boarding passes.
