Hey DMV fam, it’s time to plan your next island escape. American Airlines just dropped prices on their routes from D.C. to Nassau, Bahamas this fall. We found flights as low as $288 at the time of this post.

There are several other low price flights for this same route via other airlines. However, some of them will come with some long layovers or they will require you to fly different airlines for your departure and return. It’s all up to you.

For the American Airlines deal, you can travel throughout September and October with a few other options going through December.

To find and book your seat, it is easiest to use Google Flights. You can simply scroll over to the month that works best for you. You should then see the lowest prices available populate in green. You can click on the date range that you like and then check out the flight options available.

This is a basic economy flight, therefore there are a few things to consider before purchasing:

  • You cannot select your seat prior to check-in. One will be assigned to you on the day that you fly.
  • You cannot make changes or upgrades to the ticket once it is confirmed.
  • You will be in the last group of passenger to board.

Luckily, with American’s basic fare you can still bring one carry-on item and one personal item. Your first checked bag is still only $30 just like a normal economy ticket.

You can check American’s website for additional details.

Nassau is a city full of life and color. While most people visit the Bahamian capital from their cruise route, there is still a lot to see and do.

If you want a beach that’s a little quieter, then you should check out the Cable Beach area. Here you will find several resorts and a stretch of beach that doesn’t get as crowded.

If you want to spend a day supporting mostly Black-owned businesses in the area, check out our suggestions here.

Depending on how much time you will be spending on your trip, you can make a trip out to one of the other islands. Exuma is where you can go to get up close and personal with the pigs who inhabit the area. Don’t worry; they are friendly.

Book your flight soon. The prices are likely to increase.
