Here’s something you don’t see every day.

A Georgia family staying at an Airbnb in South Miami had the most random encounter with an alligator when they discovered it in their swimming pool, casually soaking up the sun, on top of an alligator-shaped floatie.

Dave Jacobs and his family were in town for a wedding. Earlier that weekend, the gator was spotted at a nearby lake on the opposite side of the Airbnb’s screened-off pool deck. Aside from the Jacobs family’s dog barking at it, the situation seemed pretty harmless. That is until the alligator decided to take a dip in the pool.

“We thought that was pretty cute,” he said. “Then, the next day, it just showed up in the pool.”

Jacobs’ wife contacted the Airbnb owner who then got in contact with wildlife management. Apparently, with it being mating season, they’ve been pretty busy with similar encounters.

Most people would expect to see an alligator in a swampy area or even a lake, but a wild alligator on top of an alligator floatie in your vacation rental’s backyard is pretty new. Then again, this is Florida, where bizarre alligator sightings aren’t unusual.
