If you have been to any beach destination across the world, you’ve likely been approached by someone asking you to listen to the whole vacation club “spill.”

The representatives are literally waiting as soon as you step off of your flight, hoping to get you on their tour. They persuade you with things like free private transportation to your accommodation or even free excursions during your trip.

With anything that sounds good, there are pros and cons. Here are a few that we found in our experience with these presentations.

Cons

We’ll start with the bad because people like the bad news first. When you head out on vacation, you probably have your own itinerary and plans already mapped out before you even arrive.

You’ve probably never had the intention to give a random stranger 90 minutes of your time to talk your head off about some fancy resort that they are opening in the future.

While most presentations promise only 90 minutes, many tend to go on for 2 hours or more. If you are on vacation for a special occasion, this can put a damper in your mood.

In addition to the long tour, the rep will get somewhat pushy in trying to persuade you that you need to sign on to become a member of their club. Most of these clubs come at a price that’s more than what a car is worth in the U.S.

As I always tell them, while your club has some amazing perks, I didn’t plan on giving anyone $5,000 of my hard earned money while on vacation.

From there, they send in the backup person to convince you even more. At this point they are definitely over the 90 minutes and you are more than likely going to be annoyed. But, if you can just hang on and keep saying no you’ll get to the pros.

Pros

So after you’ve sat through the unnecessarily long presentation, it’s time to collect what you are owed.

Again, this is the way that most of these companies bait you in. They offer a ton of free things that you can utilize during your vacation, mostly with no restrictions.

It can be hard to convince them of certain perks if you are with a larger group. But for couples and solo travelers it ends up working out perfect and saving you some extra money.

I personally have been able to enjoy a full vacation without barely having to use my own money. In Phuket, Thailand I was given a book full of vouchers that equated to money. I was able to spend a day at a nice spa, pay for my meals, transportation to the airport, and book an excursion that I did’t initially have planned.

In Cabo, I was given access to a private beach club everyday of my vacation. In addition to that, I was able to get 50% off of excursions, transportation to the airport, and I received discounts on meals around the beach.

Is it worth it?

It depends on the individual. If you are someone who likes to save a little money while on vacation and you are pretty patient, this will be great.

However, if you are focused on sticking to your schedule and already have most of your tours booked, this won’t be worth your time.

Either way, be prepared to shut them down at some point in the process. Whether it’s before they even convince you to take the tour or after when they want you to buy. Be strong fam.
