Since March of this year, many airlines were forced to cancel flights due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While airlines tried to hold on to the cash and issue travel credits, customers were entitled to receiving a full refund.

If you were a customer of United Airlines and didn’t receive a refund, the airline is making it easier to redeem your Electronic Travel Certificates (ETCs).

In the past customers were only able to use one ETC per traveler but now the airline is allowing up to ten travel certificates to be applied to one flight.

Also, you will no longer be required to contact a call center to redeem your ETC — you can now redeem them multiple at a time online. All you have to do is apply them under the Travel Certificates tab and if you use the mobile app, you’re able to redeem multiple certificates at a time.

Prior to the pandemic, United allowed ETCs to be redeemed within a year from the issue date but that has also changed for the better. Now, travelers have two years to redeem ETCs.

Although you have to redeem the ETCs within two years from the issue date, you have an additional 11 months to travel on them.

United is making efforts to ensure travelers don’t totally lose out on travel because of the pandemic.
