After receiving negative press surrounding house parties over the last year or so, popular home-booking app Airbnb is now looking to tighten the rules. It was recently revealed that the brand would no longer allow people under the age of 25 to rent a home in their hometown, under certain conditions.

The new rule would prevent anyone 24 and younger, with less than three positive reviews or even one negative review, from renting an entire home near where they live.

However, renting a home out of town or even a private room is still okay.

“Reducing the number of unauthorized house parties on Airbnb has always been a priority, and it’s more important now than ever,” Airbnb said in a statement. “With public health mandates in place throughout the country, we’re taking actions to support safe and responsible travel in the United States.”

This rule comes after a house party in California drew in a crowd of over 100 people after being advertised on social media. Unfortunately, a shooting took place and someone lost their life.

The company hopes this new restriction will prevent similar occurrences from happening in the future.

Do you think this new age restriction will truly prevent house parties?
