Packing for the perfect trip to Africa is truly an art form. The key is to think about your trip and bring exactly what you need so you’re no bogged down with too much stuff.

If you’re packing for a Safari Experience

Safaris are a casual activity and the best clothes are fitting and lightweight. It gets cooler at night, so be sure to pack long sleeves, pants, and a jacket.

Experts also warn to pick neutral tones over brighter colors as neutral colors tend to blend in better with the environment.   Avoid wearing blue as it attracts disease-carrying insects.

In addition to packing lightweight clothes for comfort,  frequent travelers to Africa love packing a sarong.   It can be used as a sheet, towel,  blanket, scarf, and more.  If you don’t have one to pack,  purchase one from a local vendor. 

Toiletries and First Aid

A basic first aid kit is will go a long way during your trip, so be sure to bring health essentials. Pack sunscreen, after-sun cream, mosquito repellant, medicine for an upset stomach, and malaria pills. 

Dehydration in Africa should be taken seriously, so be ready in the event that you fall ill.   Pack re-hydration tablets and/or pills as a backup.
