In today’s episode of “fake news,” the Trump family says they are unable to expand their hotel brand as planned because of the family’s current political spotlight.

There were plans in the works to expand with new hotels. However, those plans were cancelled Thursday. The plans called for four mid-tier hotels in areas that heavily support the current President. The properties were scheduled to be three and four-star hotels that would have brought significant growth to the Trump brand.

This growth would have helped offset the lack of new business for the brand otherwise. The company has vowed not to seek new business opportunities while Trump is in office, seeing as though most have been unsuccessful during this time.

Sons Donald Jr. and Eric currently head the family business. Donald Sr. took a step back when he took office.

“We live in a climate where everything will be used against us, whether by the fake news or by Democrats who are only interested in presidential harassment and wasting everyone’s time, barraging us with nonsense letters,” Eric Trump said in a statement.

This was a reference to the many calls for an investigation into the family’s business practices over the years.

“When my father took office, we made countless voluntarily sacrifices as a family and as a company, turning down hotels and projects from almost every corner of the globe. We walked away from billions of dollars’ worth of deals and ceased virtually all expansion,” Eric Trump said in the statement. “If we have to slow down our growth for the time being, we are happy to do it.”

“When politics are over, we will resume doing what we do best which is building the best and most luxurious properties in the world,” Donald Jr. said.
