Trump Administration Considers Domestic Travel Ban Amid Coronavirus Concerns
The U.K. and Ireland are the latest countries added to the Trump Administration’s travel ban in response to the coronavirus.
Trump announced earlier this week that foreigners from 26 European countries would be banned from the United States for 30 days would begin Monday at midnight.
As airlines scramble to deal with the latest travel ban, President Donald Trump said further travel restrictions within the United States are a possibility – especially from areas that have reported a higher number of cases.
“If you don’t have to travel, I wouldn’t do it,” Trump said during a recent coronavirus briefing when asked whether people should travel domestically.
Trump added that his administration is “working with the states and considering other restrictions.”
Airlines will likely run flights for several days to allow citizens to return home and then will begin cancellations, as reported in CNBC.
It’s an unprecedented time for the airline industry that has caused airline companies to reduce or shut down their operations in ways they haven’t done before.
Recently, Delta Air Lines said it would cut 40 percent of its flight capacity in an effort to save money.
“Cancellations are rising dramatically with net bookings now negative for travel over the next four weeks,” Delta CEO Ed Bastian said in a company-wide memo. “To put that in perspective, we’re currently seeing more cancellations than new bookings over the next month.”

And Delta is not alone. American Airlines has put a halt on flights to continental Europe until at least May 6 and United Airlines announced they would cut service from the U.S. to Europe by half.

Meanwhile, the number of reported coronavirus cases in the United States continues to increase. The latest numbers as of Sunday afternoon show that there are more than 3,000 cases reported across the country.
States like Ohio and Illinois have implemented a lockdown on restaurants by limited food to takeout and delivery options, and California is calling for wineries, bars, and restaurants to shutdown. as reported by the Guardian.
