Travel Noire has always been devoted to showcasing black travelers that inspire others to see more of the world. Reeta Rodriguez shares how travel helped her to realize the value of our time on Earth.

 

Travel Noire: Where are you originally from and where do you currently live? 

 

Reeta: I am originally from Harlem, NY. I currently reside in Washington Heights.

 

Travel Noire: When did traveling become more than a hobby for you? 

 

Reeta: Nine years ago when I traveled to three international destinations in one year while working a full-time job. I knew then travel was more of a necessity than a hobby.

 

 

Travel Noire: What are your favorite domestic destinations?

 

Reeta: Hawaii for its picturesque beauty, history and art. Puerto Rico for the accessibility, culture and beauty. L.A. for the art scene. Arizona for the natural beauty of the Antelope Canyon.

 

 

Travel Noire: What are your favorite international destinations to visit? 

 

Reeta: Zimbabwe because of its adventures. Rome for architecture and food. Jamaica for fun, people and the beaches. The Dominican Republic for more fun and food. Greece for Acropolis, wine and food.

 

Travel Noire: What are your top three travel secrets that black travelers should know?

 

Reeta: Join travel clubs. They save you tons of time spent planning, ensure unique, one-of-a-kind experiences everywhere daily and save you tons of money.

 

Travel Noire: How did traveling change your perspective on life?

 

Reeta: Our time here is limited. Life should be filled with experiences as opposed to material goods. I’ve never seen a U-Haul attached to a hearse.

 

 

Travel Noire: What has been your most inspiring travel moment? 

 

Reeta: Stepping off the plane in Zimbabwe and falling into a traditional dance with the locals. I’m a girl from Harlem. Anything is possible.

 

Travel Noire: What’s one item that you always have in your carry-on?

 

Reeta: My camera. Also, hand sanitizer, a pen, and my power bank. Always stay charged.

 

Travel Noire: Where are you off to next? 

 

Reeta: Jamaica and Cancún later in the year and possibly Iceland because I would love to see the Northern Lights.
