Travel Noire: Where are you originally from and where do you currently live?

Jovita: I’m from Columbus, Ohio and I live in Cincinnati.

Travel Noire: When did traveling become more than a hobby for you?

Jovita: Traveling became more than a hobby for me after I had my first child. I realized travel is where I find my comfort and my peace and it’s helped me to grow into a more well-rounded person. Traveling is therapy for me.

Travel Noire: What are your favorite domestic destinations?

Jovita: My favorite domestic destinations are… well none. Lol. If I had to choose I’d say Chicago and New York City. The food there is amazing and I love the city life.

Travel Noire: What are your favorite destinations to travel abroad?

Jovita: I’d have to say my favorite destinations abroad so far are anywhere in Asia. I just love the Asian continent. From the cuisines to the hospitality to the culture. The fact that my money goes a long way there is definitely an added bonus.

Travel Noire: What are your top three travel secrets that black travelers should know?

Jovita: My top three travel secrets would be to book flights with long layovers if you can. That way you can leave the airport and see other countries. Use an ATM at your destination instead of exchanging money through currency exchange. Lastly, use smaller online travel agents (OTAs) to book flights. You typically get better rates this way.

Travel Noire: How did traveling change your perspective on life?

Jovita: Traveling has made me a more humble person. I realized that the material things I deem as important simply aren’t. Before traveling, I was a very close-minded person. It has opened my eyes up to so much beauty and life lessons.

Travel Noire: What has been your most inspiring travel moment?

Jovita: The fact that I’m still able to travel even though I’m the mother of a child with autism as well as a wife. Being able to travel with my life partner is enough for me. I really believe it’s not the destination but the person you share that destination with.

Travel Noire: What’s one item that you always have in your carry-on?

Jovita: I make sure to always have a convertible charger in my carry-on.

Travel Noire: Where are you off to next?

Jovita: My husband and I will be taking off for three weeks back to Asia. We plan to visit Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia with a stopover in Shanghai and Seoul.
