Located one hour south of Kenya’s capital city, The Truck House in Nairobi is one of the most unique homes in the East African country. The two-story home is built on wheels, and unlike typical mobile and trailer homes, the wheels stay on the house. After all, the wheels are a part of the home’s foundation.

Journalist Ian Wafula built “The Truck House” on the back of an old Black truck. Although Wafula characterizes the artistic space as a one-bedroom tiny home, there’s plenty of space both inside and outside. The Truck House in Nairobi transports you into a different world compared to the bustling capital. It’s a space to relax, work remotely and connect with nature.

What to Expect on the Inside

The Truck House is a loft-style space with stairs to the bedroom. The bedroom is located on the second floor. Guests will find a queen bed, fairy lights and large windows to allow natural light inside.

One thing guests will appreciate about Wafula’s space is how he maximizes every corner to create a practical and intimate space. The projector in the bedroom can be used for entertainment, while eliminating the bulk or clutter a television and television stand would bring.

The living room and bathroom are on the first floor, where the modern interior décor brings the space to life.

Inside the bathroom is a modern oasis. Wafula designed the tiny home with a standup shower featuring white tile, black trimmings, and a wooden brown door mixing in some bohemian flair.

A Wellness Space Outdoors

Guests will find solace on the outside with a colorful garden, an above-ground pool and designated areas for a barbecue or bonfire under the stars.

On the rooftop is a fantastic view of Kyumbi Hill. You can watch the sunrise sunset or layout at night to star gaze.

A library and workspace are on-site to read or work from home. You have to open the front of the truck to access it, where you will also be greeted with a beautiful skylight.
