The Best Beaches in Lisbon
By Mitti Hicks
Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is one of Europe’s most vibrant and charismatic cities. One thing visitors love about Lisbon is the weather. The sun shines more than 280 days a year and the temperatures barely drop below 60 degrees: making it perfect weather for beach lovers.
If you’re planning a trip to the beach in Lisbon, here’s a list of some of the best beaches this city has to offer:
Carcavelos is one of the largest beaches in Lisbon and the most popular. Tourists prefer this beach because its easy access using public transportation. You will find tons of bars, cafes, and of course, beach volleyball.
Keep in mind that this beach tends to get crowded.
This is another popular beach due to its proximity to public transportation. In addition to its medieval-style castle, this beach is known for cafes and shops as well.
If you’re looking for something less crowded, then head to Praia de Adraga. Located in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, this beach is surrounded by beautiful cliffs and a deep valley.
Looking for something even more secluded? Then head to Ursa Beach. The beach, located just north of Cabo da Roca, is a hidden gem. Keep in mind that a walk on this beach, while beautiful, is quite steep.
If you’re comfortable with your body, then consider Meco Beach. This beach is known as a nudist beach, and is popular among local and international visitors.
The last thing to remember is that beaches in Lisbon can be divided into four main regions: The Estoril-Cascais Coastline, The Serra de Sintra Coastline, The Costa de Caparica Coastline, and The Serra da Arrábida Coastline.
