Gamers rejoice! Universal Studios Japan has announced that the long-awaited opening of Super Nintendo World is finally set for March 18th, 2021.

Guests will finally be able to try the Mario Kart: Kuppa’s Challenge rollercoaster inside Bowser’s castle, which uses augmented reality and projection-mapping technology for a more interactive experience. Other attractions include the slower-paced Yoshi Adventure ride, along with gift shops and restaurants.

The park, located at Universal Studios in Osaka, was first scheduled to open in the summer of 2020, but that plan was thwarted as the Covid-19 pandemic escalated in Japan. A second opening in February 2021 was also postponed.

Daily COVID-19 cases have since dropped in the country paving the way for the grand opening. However, strict protocols will be enforced including mandatory mask wearing, body temperature checks, limited guests, and hand sanitizing.

Learn more about the attractions and new safety measures on the website.
