Nothing brings cultures together quite like food. To celebrate the black men and women who are using food and flavors to connect cultures and communities, we’re sharing some of our favorite recipes from professional chefs, at-home cooks and foodies who know that great flavors can bring us all together. MasterChef contestant Ashley Mincey shares one of her quick and simple dessert recipes for chocolate truffles that any and everyone can make at home.

1 part heavy cream

2 parts chocolate (milk or dark)

Flavor ideas: coffee extract, rum, vanilla extract, and orange liqueur

Coating ideas: cocoa powder, crushed nuts, shredded coconut, crushed graham crackers

1). Heat the cream in the microwave in 30-second intervals until it’s hot to the touch.

2). Add the chocolate to a bowl. Pour the hot cream over the chocolate. Let it rest for 30 seconds then stir until smooth.

3). If some chocolate is still solid, heat everything in 10-second intervals. Stir each time until completely smooth.

4). Stir in 1 teaspoon liquid flavors. Cover the refrigerate until the truffles are firm.

5). Prepare a plate of your coatings of choice. With a small ice cream scoop or a teaspoon, scoop a small ball of truffle into your hands. Roll into a ball, then roll the ball into the coating. Add to a serving platter. Repeat this process until all the chocolate is coated evenly.

6). Serve immediately or refrigerate for later!
