As we continue to navigate this new normal of COVID-19 and all of its effects, one man in Atlanta is doing his part to help the less fortunate in his community.

Terrance Lester, a man who one experienced being homeless himself as a teenager, has dedicated his time to assembling portable hand washing stations for the homeless around the area.

“I started wondering how homeless people would keep their hands cleans, it’s already difficult,” Lester said in a statement.

With the CDC recommending hand washing as one of the main preventative measures for the virus, Lester knew he had to do his part to help those who don’t have access to running water.

He began calling around to different RV manufactures since they create and install a similar technology in the vehicles. Within a week, 15 machines were donated and sent to Lester.

Lester then assembles the machines, which hold up to 10 gallons of water. He, and members of his organization Love Beyond Walls, will soon begin setting them up in the heart of Atlanta.

Every single day for the last eight days, we have thought of ways to get water to people living on the streets during this crisis, and we found a way to build and assemble portable handwashing stations that holds up to 10 gallons of water.

“When I was experiencing homelessness being out there, you would have to go a mile or two to wash your hands or go to the bathroom,” Lester said. “I wanted to make sure we put stations in parts where people are under bridges, just in case someone wants to stop and wash their hands.”
