As we enter the next phase of this global pandemic, more and more destinations are announcing plans to re-open and allow travelers back in. However, this does not necessarily mean that we are in the clear and that the virus has been contained.

In hopes of continuing to stop the spread, popular travel booking site Orbitz recently launched the “Staying at Home” campaign. This limited time promotion will actually pay Orbitz users $100 in Orbucks for staying home and not traveling.

“COVID-19 has forced many of us to miss vacations, work trips, family gatherings and so many other milestones in our everyday lives,” says Carey Malloy, Orbitz Brand Director. “While we’d normally reward our members for going places, this extraordinary situation calls for us all to stay home right now as much as we can. So that’s what we’re doing: rewarding you for going nowhere.”

The way it works is, the first 1,000 Orbitz members to sign up for the campaign will fill out a self-reporting form to document the number of days they have stayed home. They will also be asked about the types of activities they have participated in while in quarantine.

Participants will have up to six months to redeem the $100 in Orbucks by booking a hotel stay before November 5, 2020, with one of the website’s more than 385,000 hotel partners.
