October 1st is National Vegetarian Day, and if you are looking for the perfect spot to celebrate this partly plant-based holiday, here are some of the top Black-owned vegan and vegetarian restaurants across the country.

Compton Vegan is serving up some serious vegan recipes with cashew based mac n’ cheese, plant-based BBQ chik’n, classic southern gumbo with vegan shrimpr, and so much more.

Drop Square Kitchen creates boutique style, from scratch, plant-based food using thoughtfully curated ingredients from the earth. Every one of their recipes reflects a multicultural influence or story.

Kale Café’s philosophy on food is simple, they do not like processed foods and avoid them.  They are known for using organic ingredients as much as possible and are always trying to source more organic, local food.

From the One Night Stand burger to the Big Dawg made with plant-based bratwurst, sauerkraut, and Slut Sauce on a vegan pretzel bun, you can’t go wrong with any item on Slutty Vegan’s menu.

“Serving food as medicine,” Soul Vegetarian seeks to offer a one-of-a-kind culinary experience for vegans and health aficionados throughout the Chicago area.

Nola Vegan is moving to a new location, but once they do, be sure tosnag a treat from their 100% plant-based, fresh, cruelty-free, and totally delicious menu. Some of the highlights include the Oyster Mushroom Poboy and the breakfast platter made with southwest tofu scramble, creamy grits, apple seitan sausage, and toast.

We could all use a little comfort food these days, and Urban Vegan Kitchen is serving it up. Their huge menu includes everything from house made chili to jackfruit fajitas.

“A vegan plant-based experience with a Southern twist,” Veltree offers vegan soul food in the heart of North Carolina. According to the website, the menu is curated by celebrity chef and soul food oracle, Chef Velvet, and offers a one-of-a-kind experience with a selection of plant-based options that are derived from southern classic recipes. Each option on the menu is seasoned to perfection and is a mind, body, and soul treat.

At Green Seed Vegan, you are getting 100% vegan and soy-free dishes, including fresh pressed paninis, sides, and gluten-free desserts.

Head to Capital Hill’s Plum Bistro for a taste of what renowned chef, Makini Howell is serving up. Grab a meal on the go from the Plum Truck or stop in at the bistro for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch.
