LVMH (LVMH Moët Hennessy) – the French company behind powerful brands such as Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Givenchy, and Fenty Beauty – announced that they will begin using the factories they normally use to produce their famous perfumes and makeup to now manufacture hand sanitizer gel. Production will begin on Monday.

Per LVMH, they will be delivering the sanitizers to French healthcare authorities for free. According to March 12 data from the World Health Organization, France so far has dealt with 2269 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus that have led to 48 deaths.

This announcement comes amid a global shortage of alcohol-based sanitizers, which have been recommended by the CDC as one of the tools to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

“Through this initiative, LVMH intends to help address the risk of a lack of product in France and enable a greater number of people to continue to take the right action to protect themselves from the spread of the virus,” the company said in a statement. “LVMH will continue to honor this commitment for as long as necessary, in connection with the French health authorities.”

France has closed the doors of its restaurants, cafes, and popular tourist attractions in an effort to stop the spread of the virus.

France has dealt with more than 2,200 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus that have led to at least 48 deaths. Around the world, coronavirus has infected more than 156,000 around the world and killed at least 5,800.
