There’s a shopping list created. Then, we end up spending money on clothes, shoes and accessories that don’t really even make the outfit.

Let’s start with the definition of a capsule wardrobe. Capsule wardrobes are basically a collection of interchangeable pieces that help reduce the total number of pieces needed to make a complete wardrobe.

Special pieces

While it kind of takes the guess work out of getting dressed every morning, these pieces are intended to be classy and timeless. A capsule wardrobe helps the traveler to only buy and wear things they they actually love. Helen Carefoot explains in The Washington Post piece she authored: “More considered choices mean less shopping, which is good for the planet and the pocketbook. And it’s particularly well-suited to traveling.”

How to create a capsule wardrobe

So, how do you create a capsule wardrobe? First, take a look at your closet. Get rid of the things you don’t love, things that don’t currently fit. Keep the things you wear often. Those are your staple pieces. Then, look at the trend of the clothes you kept and go from there, remembering the fabrics, colors and styles you love. Then add accordingly.

What does it include

A capsule wardrobe includes everything from accessories and handbags to pants and tops. But, they all blend seamlessly. Three t-shirts, a couple of tank tops, sweaters a blouse and two jackets. As you add pieces to your new wardrobe, remember to keep all of the other pieces in mind.

Cuts packing time

Traveling with a well-curated wardrobe cuts packing time. It makes packing for vacation a breeze. Then, when actually on vacation, you look like your outfits have all been well-thought out, planned perfectly even. Is a capsule wardrobe the ideal travel wardrobe for slow travel?
