Is a capsule wardrobe the ideal travel wardrobe for slow travel? Having to try on each piece of clothing you own to find the perfect outfits before a vacation can take weeks. There’s a shopping list created. Then, we end up spending money on clothes, shoes and accessories that don’t really even make the outfit.
Let’s start with the definition of a capsule wardrobe. Capsule wardrobes are basically a collection of interchangeable pieces that help reduce the total number of pieces needed to make a complete wardrobe.
While it kind of takes the guess work out of getting dressed every morning, these pieces are intended to be classy and timeless. A capsule wardrobe helps the traveler to only buy and wear things they they actually love. Helen Carefoot explains in The Washington Post piece she authored: “More considered choices mean less shopping, which is good for the planet and the pocketbook. And it’s particularly well-suited to traveling.”
How to create a capsule wardrobe
So, how do you create a capsule wardrobe? First, take a look at your closet. Get rid of the things you don’t love, things that don’t currently fit. Keep the things you wear often. Those are your staple pieces. Then, look at the trend of the clothes you kept and go from there, remembering the fabrics, colors and styles you love. Then add accordingly.

A capsule wardrobe includes everything from accessories and handbags to pants and tops. But, they all blend seamlessly. Three t-shirts, a couple of tank tops, sweaters a blouse and two jackets. As you add pieces to your new wardrobe, remember to keep all of the other pieces in mind.

Traveling with a well-curated wardrobe cuts packing time. It makes packing for vacation a breeze.
