Apple held its annual event on September 12 to unveil the latest gadgets from the tech giant. Part of this year’s release were three new iPhone models: the iPhone XS, the iPhone XS Max, and the iPhone XR. These devices have arrived one year after the company released the 8, 8 Plus, and X models.

As with any new iPhone release comes new and exciting advancements. This year’s announcement brings new features and upgrades that are perfect for the traveler at heart.

Improved battery life means more time out to explore

For any traveler, maximizing your time is essential for a great trip. You don’t want to waste time sitting around waiting for your phone to charge. Additionally, you want to capture the perfect photo or video while you’re out and any smartphone is only as good as its battery. The new XS model lasts 30 minutes longer than last year’s X. The XS Max can hold a charge 90 minutes longer than its predecessor.

Larger display brings better entertainment

Having your own entertainment device in your pocket is clutch, especially during longer travel periods. The iPhone XS will have a 5.8″ super retina display, similar to the iPhone X’s display. However, the XR will feature a 6.1″ screen while the XS Max will have a 6.5″ screen, the largest ever on any iPhone. With the larger displays, you can enjoy better video and gaming right in your hands. So sit back, be entertained, and watch the time fly on your next journey.

A sharper camera will bring better memories.

As the saying goes: “It didn’t happen unless you took a picture.” Now you will be able to wow your friends and family with sharper photos on your new 12 MP wide camera and Apple’s renowned True Tone flash on the XR and XR Max models. Are you a solo traveler? No worries, the enhanced portrait mode will provide you with sharper selfies as well. All three phone models will shoot video in 4K, the highest on any smartphone in the world.

The “almost” dual-SIM technology makes calling and texting easier abroad.

If you are a frequent international traveler, you know how annoying it can be to switch out SIM cards while abroad to ensure you have a connection at all times. The newest models now have one removable SIM slot and one eSIM, a virtual SIM card that gives you some, but not all, of the benefits of a second removable SIM.

Water resistance and improved durability means less stress.

No matter where you are, there’s a chance that you’ll drop your phone. Having to deal with a shattered phone while away from home can be unecessarily stressful. Apple claims that the new iPhones will feature “the most durable glass ever in a smartphone.” In addition to the improved durability also comes protection of IP68, an industry measure that means the phones are strong enough to resist water up to a depth of 6.6 feet for up to 30 minutes. Now you can enjoy your trip without being overly cautious with your phone.
