Here Are Ways You Can Help Hurricane Dorian Victims

Hurricane Dorian lashed through the Bahamas as a Category 5 storm bringing devastating winds and extensive flooding across the region.

The storm, which hit the Northern Bahamas as one of the strongest on record in the Atlantic, has killed at least five people and destroyed at least 13,000 homes.

As the storm makes its way to the United States, the Bahamas is preparing to deal with the aftermath.

If you’re looking for ways to help and support those in need, here are a variety of organizations assisting with recovery efforts.

Bahamas Red Cross

Staff and volunteers from Bahamas’ Red Cross is asking for donations of non-perishable goods,  baby supplies, cleaning items, and bedding to distribute across the island. 

To create awareness around the Bahamas and what is needed, the organization is also using the hashtag #HelpusHelp on social media.

Bahamas Relief

Toiletries, diapers, first items, cleaning supplies, canned goods, and box fans are just a few items that Miami Dade Community Operations Center is asking for to assist those in the Bahamas. 

World Central Kitchen

Chef Jose Andres is the founder of World Central Kitchen where he is setting up kitchens to feed the victims of Hurricane Dorian.

You can donate to World Central Kitchen straight through the organization’s website.

International Medical Corps

The International Medical Corps is accepting donations where the proceeds raised will go towards delivering healthcare and medical supplies.

Samaritan’s Purse

Samaritan’s Purse is preparing its DC-8 plane to airlift tons of emergency relief to the Bahamas and asking people to make donations as well.

Their first load will include temporary shelter material, household water filters, and two community water filtration units specially designed to turn saltwater into drinking water.
