If you tend to travel for the love of food, here are five countries with renowned culinary scenes where food and flavor are part of the culture.

Peru

Peru has taken the spot as the top culinary destination in the world for six years running, beating out culinary superstars like Spain, Italy, and Japan. It’s no wonder that Peru’s bold flavors and use of spices have gained worldwide recognition. With authentic Peruvian cuisine, you can expect to find quinoa, potatoes, corn, soups, rice, or various kinds of meat, from alpaca to pork in just about every dish. Lima offers the most options and is considered the culinary capital of South America, so any foodie should expect to be thoroughly satisfied with a trip to this majestic city.

Japan

Many people travel to Japan to indulge in its culinary scene. A country that loves to mix old with new, you can enjoy modern, contemporary restaurants or dine in a place that is steeped in tradition. Sushi, of course, is a must-have, but also be sure to enjoy sashimi, ramen, soba and udon noodles, and tempura. A sushi making class is a great way to learn about the care and traditions that go into the food, while also getting to enjoy your work.

Spain

Like many European countries, food is ingrained in Spanish culture and is at the center of every social gathering. With a range of influences, Spain is a country that prides itself on the traditions and cultures that are specific to each region. This includes their food. From paella in Valencia to patatas bravas in Barcelona, you can travel through Spain and indulge in one of the greatest culinary feasts in Europe.

Mexico

With culinary inspiration drawn from Mayan, Aztec, and Spanish ingredients, Mexico is home to some of the most delicious flavors in the world. There are many reasons why Mexico is one of the most popular travel destinations, from history and culture to stunning beaches and adventure. But foodies will find that a trip to Mexico is a great excuse to satisfy their culinary desires. You can enjoy tacos, chilaquiles, mole, tamales, and elote, the famed Mexican street corn throughout the country. But if tequila is your thing, you should also hop on a Tequila Tour through Jalisco to experience some of Mexico’s renowned distilleries.

With views almost as indulgent as the food, eating in Tuscany among rolling hillsides, medieval towns, and iconic cypress trees, is both a culinary and life experience you will never forget.
