American Airlines basic economy fare comes through yet again. The airline has a promotion on flights from the Washington, D.C. area to Nassau, Bahamas. You can find routes as low as $284 roundtrip.

The flights will have a short layover in Charlotte. If you don’t mind a longer layover, you can find fares for a little cheaper on American as well.

This promotion is valid for travel from March through most of the year. However, this does not mean that the promotion will run all year. You can use Google Flights to find the dates that work best for you.

There are a few rules under the basic economy fare class.

  • You cannot choose your seat prior to check-in. If you don’t mind a random seat, then you will have no issue.
  • You cannot make changes to your reservation once it is confirmed.
  • You are allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item. Checked luggage under this fare will cost more than normal.

You can check American’s website for additional details.

Nassau is a city full of life and color. While most people visit the Bahamian capital from their cruise route, there is still a lot to see and do.

If you want a beach that’s a little quieter, then you should check out the Cable Beach area. Here you will find several resorts and a stretch of beach that doesn’t get as crowded.

If you want to spend a day supporting mostly Black-owned businesses in the area, check out our suggestions here.

Depending on how much time you will be spending on your trip, you can make a trip out to one of the other islands. Exuma is where you can go to get up close and personal with the pigs who inhabit the area. Don’t worry; they are friendly.
