Over the last few days, the prices for several routes from Washington, D.C. to Africa have been reduced. Some of the lowest-priced routes are to Cape Town, South Africa or Johannesburg for around $550.

These routes do include a pretty long layover in Zurich for the departure and Frankfurt on the return. You could turn it into a day of exploring before catching your next flight.

Another low-priced option is to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania for around $575.

Additional routes include Nairobi, Madagascar, Rwanda, and Togo. You can use Google Flights to find the route that works best for you. This reduced price is valid for travel departing through March 31.

Cape Town is one of the most modernized cities on the continent. This is in large part due to colonization. If you venture to the South African city, you must visit Table Mountain. You can reach the top via the cable car or by hiking. The view from the top is breathtaking.

Johannesburg is filled with so much history. You must visit the Apartheid museum to gain a better understanding of the racial tension that plagued the country only a few decades ago. You also have the option to visit Soweto, one of the poorest townships in South Africa.

If you head to Dar es Salaam, you can lay out on one of several of its beaches. There is nothing like seeing the waters of the Indian Ocean up close and personal. If you have time, make the trip out to Zanzibar. You won’t be disappointed.

No matter which African country you may travel to, the local markets are a must visit. You can find handcrafted goodies at low prices. A little bargaining goes a long way.

These low prices won’t last long.
