Asian American actress Anna May Wong will be featured at the back of the quarter. Making her the first Asian American to be featured on American currency. The quarter is one of the sets of quarters to be released by the US Mint’s American Women Quarters Program. The coins will begin circulating in 2023 through 2025.

Anna May Wong’ has left a legacy in the entertainment industry. Her career in movies, TV, and theater deserves to be celebrated considering she is Hollywood’s first Chinese American movie star, according to US Mint.

The design of the quarter will show a close-up picture of Wong, head in hand surrounded by lights. George Washington will still be on the front of the quarter as usual.

Rightfully deserved

Wong appeared in over 60 films. Before TV’s were even in color she was a star within silent films. Her work in theater also received much accolades in London and New York.

Five women in total were featured in the US Mint’s American Quarters Program. Each one celebrated for their contributions to the progression of America. The other four coins will represent poet and activist Maya Angelou, astronaut Sally Poe, Cherokee nation Chief Wilma Mankiller and suffragist Nina Otero-Warren..

Wong’s coin is the last coin to be released. Wong will be celebrated for her work and recognized for multi-dimensional roles for Asian Americans actors.
