Major festivals and concerts in 2021 are coming back!

Many were canceled and postponed in 2020 as a safety measure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. As more and more people become vaccinated, there could be some hope on the horizon with these events being rescheduled for this year.

Here’s a round-up of major fests and concerts celebrating Black culture, canceled or postponed in 2020, that we’re looking forward to in 2021.

1. Afronation

Afronation in The Algarve, Portugal is expected to take place July 1-3.

“We are currently proceeding with organizing Afro Nation Portugal 2021 as planned,” a statement read on the website. “We are working closely with Portuguese officials who have expressed support for the show. We will keep you posted with any updates as they become available. Until then, stay safe, and we look forward to seeing you in Portimāo this July!”

This year’s lineup features Burna Boy, Chris Brown, Davido, and more.

2. AfroChella

AfroChella is scheduled for Dec. 28, 2021, but no additional information has been provided about who is performing this year.

3. Broccoli City Festival

Like many other large-scale festivals, Black-owned Broccoli City was forced to postpone its in-person festival last year due to mandatory safety measures.  Organizers decided to go virtual last year and while no plans have been scheduled for 2021, we are looking forward to the in-person fest.

4. Dreamville Music Festival

The Dreamville Festival in Raleigh, NC was rescheduled before it was canceled altogether in 2020.  All tickets will be valid for the new date, which organizers have not announced yet.  There is some hope as the last communication from organizers states that they will reunite with festival-goers in 2021.

5. Hyde Park Summer Fest

Hyde Park Summer Fest, formerly known as Hyde Park Brew Fest, is an annual event sponsored by The Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce and Eat Drink and Be Events. The HP Brewfest mixes great music, good food, and craft beer with the great people of one of Chicagos Iconic neighborhoods.

While not solely about Black-owned brewers, Hyde Park Summer Fest is a great way to connect with brewers of color.

Dates have not been scheduled for 2021 yet.

6. Made In America

The Made In America festival will be rescheduled for Labor Day Weekend 2021 in Philadelphia.

No updates as of now.

7. New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival

The producers of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival have rescheduled the Jazz Fest for October 8 through 17, 2021.

“We are all ready to get together again and share that special spirit that lives at Jazz Fest. It’s taking longer than we want, but we’ll all have our celebration when the time comes,” said Quint Davis, producer and director of Jazz Fest. “Your health, along with the health of our musicians, food and crafts vendors, and all the folks that work to make the magic happen— remains the priority as we plan the return of Jazz Fest.”

8. Rolling Loud

What’s deemed as the largest Hip Hop Festival in Miami, Florida, and Portimão, Portugal will still take place this summer.

The Miami event is scheduled for July 23-July 25. No word on Portimão date just yet.
