If You Can Help, Donate To These Global Charities Amidst The Coronavirus Outbreak
Sooner or later, the impact of COVID-19 will reach us all. As daily uncertainties mount, many of us are trying to figure out how we can help those in need. If you are in a position to donate money, here are a few places to get started.
Donate Toward Medical Supplies
As the coronavirus continues to spread quickly in Iran, Relief International’s teams are working nonstop to secure shipments of protective medical gear and supplies for frontline health workers working to contain the outbreak. According to nytimes.com, the group has so far provided more than 50,000 pieces of medical protective gear, including 24,000 masks and 5,000 pairs of goggles, as well as 40,000 kits to test for the coronavirus; 85 percent of all donated funds go directly to its programs.
Heart To Heart International
Heart to Heart International is distributing urgently needed equipment and medication to its partners around the world. Medical supplies are also being delivered to providers on the front lines.
Free Wheelchair Mission
Free Wheelchair Mission was established to provide the transforming gift of mobility to people with disabilities in developing nations. According to their website, when rapid outbreaks or natural disasters strike around the world, children and adults living with disabilities in these communities are often at the greatest risk. With coronavirus spreading around the globe, and as part of their “Mobility Beyond Wheelchairs” program, they were recently able to provide one of their partners in El Salvador with essential medical supplies at a time when they are in high demand and short supply. You can donate now to support their mission.
Donate Toward Providing Food
World Central Kitchen
Following the closing of thousands of schools, World Central Kitchen has been distributing meals to children and families in New York City, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Little Rock.
Feeding America and their network of food banks are continuing to provide food to people in need during these times of uncertainty. As the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, Feeding America has a network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries across the country.
Donate To Help Children
UNICEF is providing hygiene and medical kits to schools and health clinics across the world. They are on the front lines, fighting the novel coronavirus with supplies, support, and lifesaving information.
Save The Children
With school closures across the country, many families are struggling to feed their children meals that school once provided them. Save the Children has partnered with No Kid Hungry to make sure schools and community programs have the support they need to keep children fed during the pandemic.
School closures pose another issue for families who don’t have access to the internet or computers at home. According to nytimes.com, First Book has the goal of delivering seven million books to children in the United States who do not have internet access or home libraries so they can continue learning while schools are closed.
GlobalGiving is a large global crowdfunding community that connects nonprofits, donors, and companies. It has set a goal of reaching $5 million in donations. Your donation to this fund will help stop the virus’s spread and give communities on the front lines of the crisis the resources they need to act quickly and protect the most vulnerable.
More than 22,000 coronavirus-related GoFundMe fund-raisers have started in the past few weeks, raising more than $40 million from more than 630,000 donations worldwide, the crowdfunding site said to the New York Times. The company has also created the Covid-19 Relief Fund, which has raised more than $127,000.
