Black-Owned, Luxury Boutique Opens In The Meatpacking District Despite Pandemic
The global pandemic has caused the fall of many industries and countless businesses. For Telsha Anderson, this wasn’t a good enough reason to delay her dream. Anderson’s unique, luxury fashion vision was realized in the heart of New York City’s Meatpacking District earlier this year.
Her boutique, T.A., caters to the women-identifying community in New York City. According to the website, Anderson’s focus for T.A. is to provide a product that presents a renewed outlook towards luxury living. The brands featured at T.A. have been personally sourced from Tbilisi, London, Paris, Peru, Milan, South Korea, LA, New York, and other locations around the world.
After her store opening was canceled in March due to COVID-19, Anderson was able to launch an e-commerce site within 24-hours. Browsing the online shop is like flipping through the digital pages of Vogue (with more diverse faces). Impeccably crafted images display luxury fashion styles from accessories to pleated dresses.
“Being a new brand during unsettling times has been a bit of a roller coaster ride. Originally, the plan was to open our doors in mid-March, but due to the stay-at-home order in NYC, we had to quickly pivot to keep T.A. afloat,” she told Forbes.
After months of pivoting in response to global uncertainty due to the pandemic as well as nationwide protests against racism and police brutality, Anderson was finally able to open the doors to her boutique in early July.
“Opening a Black-owned boutique amidst a pandemic, Nationwide protest and riots wasn’t in our original plan — but we’re still here and ready to give you the clothing and in-store experience you deserve,” Anderson says in an Instagram post.
T.A. is located at 332 W 13th Street, Unit B, New York, New York, USA 10014.
